TJK Racing Comes Close to Victory at New Castle Motorsports Park - September 18 2009

The team was in top form at New Castle Motorsports Park, bringing home some hard-earned podium finishes. On Saturday T.J. was able to take home a 2nd place finish in Yamaha Pipe after fending off a late challenge by rival Birel driver Ryan Stewart. He would also go on to take home a 4th place in HPV Lite after a stunning comeback drive. After qualifying P1 and taking home the pre-final victory, T.J. looked set to walk away with the final win. However, he was pushed off the track in the first corner of the start and fell back to 13th place. Koyen then proceeded to put on a stunning drive; coming through the field and working back to 6th by the white flag, all while turning the fastest laps of the race (around .5 faster than the leaders) without any drafting help. On the final lap he was able to take two more spots to bring home 4th.

On Sunday T.J. ended up 9th in Yamaha Supercan Lite after struggling all day. He was also able to come across 2nd in HPV Heavy after another battle of a race. Koyen qualified 5th but was able to make some improvements to the kart to make him one of the fastest karts on the track for the pre-final. He slotted in 5th to start the final and ran between 4th and 5th for most of the race. Coming to the final corner he was able to pass both his Merlin teammate, Tommy Andersen, and Ryan Stewart to bring home the 2nd position.

The next event is the WKA Manufacturer's Cup finale at one of T.J.'s favorite venues; the kart track inside Lowe's Motorspeedway November 6th-8th.
